Proposals for One Auckland positive for enterprise

The environment for enterprise would be boosted by the One Auckland recommendations of the Royal Commission on Auckland Governance, says Business NZ.

Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says many businesses are disadvantaged by high rates and less than adequate services resulting from current local government structures.

“A lot of credit for movement on this issue has to go to EMA Northern under the leadership of Alasdair Thompson,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Over the last decade EMA’s vision and persistence, including the ‘Fix Auckland’ campaign, has helped to raise awareness of the need for change in the local government of our largest city.”

Mr O’Reilly said business would be supportive of the proposals for uniformity of rating, uniform charges and charges based on use.
