Constructive conversations in workplaces



Good workplace communication is part of the reason for today’s better than expected unemployment figures, says Business NZ.



“Five percent unemployment is bad news, but at least it is less than expected,” Business NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly said.



“Some of the credit for that must go to New Zealand workplaces. Most employers are determined not to lay off staff during the current downturn.



“The jobs summit helped set expectations that employers and employees would work together to find a way through current difficulties and as a result there are some very constructive conversations happening at enterprise level.



“Unemployment will undoubtedly continue to rise but the spirit of those conversations will hopefully help minimise job losses.”
