Exporting ‘the most important thing’

New Zealand firms get the chance to learn about going global this month.

Leading export companies will tell the story of how they got established in overseas markets, at a forum in Auckland on 30 September.

Fletcher Building CEO Jonathan Ling will share lessons learned from his company’s experience with exporting.

3D computer graphics maestro Ian Taylor, Glidepath’s Sir Ken Stevens and Vitaco’s Sarah Kennedy will discuss what made the difference in their export journeys.

Experts on different global regions will be on hand for advice for those wishing to break into export markets.

Export NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says exporting is the most important thing for New Zealand firms to aspire to.

“It comes down to the difference between an almost unlimited global market of billions and a small domestic market of 4 million.

“There is a huge global market out there just waiting for great Kiwi goods and services. We want to encourage New Zealand companies to give it a go.”

The day-long forum will also include workshops including ‘How government can best assist you to grow your international business’, and the opportunity to give feedback to Trade Minister Tim Groser and top trade officials.

The forum will be followed by NZTE’s NZ International Business Awards, recognising New Zealand’s top exporting companies.
