School performance data good step forward

The availability of school performance information on the Ministry of Education’s website has been welcomed by BusinessNZ.

BusinessNZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says more accessible information is essential to improve school performance.

“Accountability for performance requires good information.

“A central database for information on school achievement, ERO reports and national standards data will make it easier for students, parents and others to get greater ownership of education outcomes.

“It’s important that data can be easily captured and used to help increase learner success.

“It’s also important to have continuous improvement strategies in schools and in the wider education system in order to increase the number of students achieving NCEA Level 2.

“We will be looking for the Ministry of Education to support school boards and teachers to utilise data to review policies and practices to increase learner success.

“This new database is a good step forward for transparency in education.”
