NZ good for business

New Zealand is still seen as a good place to do business.

The World Bank’s Doing Business survey of business regulations has again ranked New Zealand 2nd in the world for overall ease of doing business.

New Zealand ranks highly for starting a business, getting credit, registering property, enforcing contracts and protecting minority investors.

Areas where New Zealand performs less well include getting electricity services and building and resource consents.

BusinessNZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says the survey provides an international benchmark for some of the factors important for successful business.

“The survey confirms New Zealand’s deserved reputation for ease of starting a new business.  It is faster and less costly to start a business here than anywhere else in the world.

“The survey also sends a useful message about areas where we can do better, for example speeding up service connections and improving processes for resource and building consents would help New Zealand business efficiency.”

The top ten nations for overall ease of doing business are Singapore, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Denmark, South Korea, Norway, US, UK, Finland and Australia.
