RMA report shows need for faster progress

The latest report on local authorities’ administration of the Resource Management Act shows the need for streamlining of the Act’s processes, says BusinessNZ.

Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says widespread delays experienced by businesses and homeowners should be dealt with by more efficiency on the part of councils and by simplification of the consent process itself.

“Business has been calling for improvements to the Act and improvements in councils’ consenting performance.

“We would like to see faster progress towards both goals and welcome the Government’s efforts on these fronts.”

Mr O’Reilly commended the transparency afforded by the Environment Ministry’s regular survey of RMA outcomes.
